Last week I mentioned I was going to talk about Daikin mini split air conditioners and how they could save you money.

During the spring of 2010, I was called by one of my Daikin installing contracting customers to help him solve a heating and cooling issue with a customer of his.

The Problem

I was asked to go and look at a home that had been purchased the year before by a new owner. The home did not have a forced air heating system (no furnace or duct work). It was being heated by electric baseboard heaters. The new elderly owner had called because she had some health issues and could not spend another summer in the house without air conditioning.

The Solution

When I visited with the new homeowner, she explained that air conditioning was her priority, heating was not required. We looked around the home and after discussions with the homeowner we decided to offer a Daikin Multi zone air conditioning system. The Multi zone systems by Daikin offer the ability to have one outdoor unit with up to four indoor units connected to it.She was delighted with the idea as I explained that this arrangement guaranteed her whole home air conditioning with whisper quiet operation. I then mentioned that all Daikin Multi port systems acted as heat pumps as well. This meant that when the cooler weather arrived she could switch the system to heating mode, (this is air conditioning in reverse. Instead of removing heating from inside the home and expelling it to the outside, the system extracts heat from the outside and delivers it inside the home.) Although heating was not a requirement, this is always a bonus when installing a Daikin Multi port system.

The Results

Shortly after the installation, around July of that summer, I called the homeowner to follow up. She was ecstatic at how well the Daikin system was cooling and dehumidifying her home.

Then to my surprise, the homeowner called me directly in December of the same year to tell me that she had received a great gift. It was her hydro bill! The home had previously been costing nearly $900.00 a month in the fall and winter to heat with the electric baseboard units and now her hydro bill was under $200.00 a month. That’s almost a $700.00 a month savings!

To say the least, that homeowner and installing contractor have been a great source of testimonial for the Daikin heat pump mini splits and the ability to heat as well as air condition many spaces.
