Most heating and cooling systems come with their built in efficiencies as rated by the manufacturer. For heating, it’s a percentage, e.g. 95% efficient. In cooling, it’s called S.E.E.R. and that stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. This is a standard test to rate the efficiency of an air conditioning system. The Canadian government sets a minimum S.E.E.R. rating on air conditioners at 13.
Daikin currently offers the highest S.E.E.R. rating in the industry for its ductless air conditioners at 26.1!
Beyond these ratings, there’s very little to offer the consumer in extra efficiency savings, until now!
Intelligent Eye
Daikin mini split air conditioners and heat pumps offer an exclusive energy savings feature called the “intelligent eye.”
What this feature does is offer the consumer some considerable savings in both heating and cooling modes.
How it works
When you have a Daikin mini split air conditioner or heat pump system installed in your home, you have the option of activating the “intelligent eye” feature by simply pushing the “intelligent eye” button on the remote or if for some reason you wish not to use it you can simply push the button on the remote to deactivate it. The “intelligent eye” scans the space continually. As it senses human movement in the space it operates normally. Let’s say everyone in the space leaves. The “intelligent eye” will continue to scan the area and if 20 minutes passes and it does not sense any movement, it automatically raises the temperature 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit in cooling mode and continues to cool and dehumidify but at the higher temperature, additionally, it lowers the temperature 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit in heating mode and continues to heat but at a lower temperature. Once the “intelligent eye” senses movement back in the space it returns to its original set temperature in both cooling and heating.
The Savings
As I mentioned earlier, most heating and cooling equipment doesn’t offer additional savings beyond the efficiency of the equipment.
When activated, the Daikin “intelligent eye” can save an additional 20% per year in operational costs in cooling mode and 30% per year in heating mode!
That’s exceptional savings with an exceptional piece of equipment.

They can vary widely.Mostly dpndneeet on how large your house is.Expect to pay between 2000 4000 dollars installed for a smaller system. Larger ones can go from 5K on up.Other options can add cost too the kind of thermostat, temperature sensors throughout the house, etc.
